Today I’m talking to Brittany and Heather, self proclaimed as the “Okayest Moms.” Brittany is a business owner, a mom of two, and she’s named her minivan, Vana White.Heather is is an elementary school teacher turned stay at home mom of two, turned unlikely autism advocate.
Together they run the Okayest Moms community, where women are encouraged that OKAY is just right. At the heart of an Okayest Mom is a single message: Choose what’s important to you and let go of all the rest. And that’s exactly what we talk about.
Not only do I feel comfortable with these women in my vulnerability, but in my okay-ness as a mom. I also laughed out loud during this episode when I went back and listened. So, grab a cup of coffee or something stronger, kick your feet back, and listen to our “okayest” conversation.

I feel like I need to send Rachel a check for the parenting coaching she provided me in this episode. No matter what age your kids are, she has so many practical tools to help us as parents get out of what she calls “yuck” and actually parent from our values. And, her Wannabe Confession is the first in the history of this show, to make me tear up.

Episode 77: Facing People Pleasing and Feeling Unworthy, with Barbara Majeski
Barbara Majeski was a married, stay at home mom, raising her three kids in the suburbs of New Jersey working diligently to check all the boxes of what she believed it meant to live a good life. Keeping fit with 5AM runs that wouldn’t interfere with her commitment to being a loyal wife, dedicated mom and an active member of the community. Class mom, philanthropy chair and an organic food buying expert. Check check and check.
The right clothes, right shoes and the right BMI. Triple check. Then things in her life began to unravel. Seemingly out of the blue Barbara’s marriage came to a devastating end. With her self esteem shattered and her future uncertain she began to reassess her life. In the midst of grappling with her new reality Barbara was handed a stage 3 cancer diagnosis. During treatment Barbara vowed that if she beat cancer and got another shot at life she would live, bigger, better, and bolder with greater purpose, meaning and intent. Determined that if given the chance she would no longer define happiness by a mythical metrics of perfection but instead explore and redefine what it really means to live a good life.
After two years of treatment and recovery she ended her marriage, began pursuing her dream career in media, and launched an online community united in personal growth, purpose & authenticity.
Barbara talks to me about coming head to head with a feeling of unworthiness and what she did about it. She also talks about her transformation through challenging times, the messy moments that can actually bring us closer to our kids, and letting her own kids see her vulnerability. She shares a powerful message about the lesson of standing in judgment of others and of yourself. Oh, and she says her Wannabe Confession is so “Jersey.”

Episode 76: Being Unapologetically Yourself, with Rachel Sobel
Rachel Sobel — the heart and mind behind Whineandcheezits.com — is living the NEW normal: Marriage, Baby, Divorce, Remarriage, another baby.In between navigating massive loads of laundry, cooking 32 different meals for picky eaters, doing ponytails over until they are perfect and double-fisting iced coffee, she finds time to write all of it down. In addition to being a published author and writing her own blog, she’s a contributor for PopSugar, MommyNearest and has work in ScaryMommy, Romper The Huffington Post and Today Parents.
Sometimes there’s sarcasm – which Rachel tells me is her love language like me – sometimes there’s cursing but she always keeps it real. No filters or censorship, just a gal momming so hard and documenting it. Rachel and I talk about what it takes to be vulnerable, and the benefits it brings and being true to yourself, even when you’re not sure who that “self” is. She also shares an amazing mom purse hack.
