Episode 27: Practicing Mindfulness, with Shonda Moralis

July 22, 2019

Mindfulness is starting to be something  of a buzzword lately, and if you haven’t heard about it yet, you will. It’s also a practice I’ve been learning more about and that I’m passionate that all women would benefit from.

Today, I’m talking to mindfulness expert, Shonda Moralis. Shonda is a women’s mindful empowerment coach, speaker, and psychotherapist in private practice. She believes that when women empower themselves and create life balance, they unleash the capability for incredible accomplishments. The author of the award-winning, Breathe, Mama, Breathe: 5-Minute Mindfulness for Busy Moms, Shonda lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two kids, loves to play outside, and is perennially fascinated by what makes people tick. Her upcoming book, Breathe, Empower, Achieve: 5-Minute Mindfulness for Women Who Do It All is now available for pre-order (The Experiment Publishing, October 2019).

Shonda tells us about what mindfulness actually IS, and how we can practice it, even as busy moms.

Seriously, she has something for EVERY mom: Working moms, stay at home moms, moms of infants, toddlers and she even has a little nugget for moms of teenagers.

One of my favorite parts of this episode is when Shonda talks about what to do when we aren’t enjoying every part of motherhood. You know, when the older lady in the grocery store says ‘enjoy every moment,’ and you feel guilty when you don’t because the kids are screaming and spilling stuff and throwing up on you? How are we supposed to enjoy THAT moment and so, SO many like it? Shonda has encouragement for us.

Episode 26: Social Media: Friend or Foe?

July 15, 2019

Social media. What do you think of it? I know there are some people who would rather see social media float away and never see the sun again. I don’t know what that means, but I’m going with it. Some people live for social media and that’s most of their adult human interaction during the day. I recall a 22 year old someone who moved to a brand new state with a brand new baby and that was the only way I knew how to make friends.  Holla out to the message board days of old.

Today I’m talking about the positives and negatives about social media, some helpful tips, and how you can protect your kids in this digital world.

Tune in to hear about my tips, tricks, how to keep your kids safe online, and my biggest social media pet peeve!

Episode 25: 10 Things That Surprised Me About Motherhood

July 7, 2019

I don’t know a single mother who hasn’t been surprised by some aspect of motherhood. We all read that “what to expect” books, and maybe they (sort of) prepare you for the birth-giving part, but then what do you do with the little tiny human laying in front of you (or on you).

When my first baby was born and the nurse was giving me all of the discharge information like how to put the baby in the carseat, how to bathe the baby, you know – all the “new parent stuff” they’re supposed to tell you – I was kind of like, ‘I’ve got this, lady. I’ve wanted to be a mom since I was twelve years old. I was made for this. I know what I’m doing.  I’m 21 now, holding this newborn baby girl in my arms, which officially makes me a grownup.’ I was MORE THAN QUALIFIED in my mind.  I mean, I was ready to love on her, kiss on her, and when she was old enough, I would slip little love notes into her lunchbox and bake her fresh cookies every day after school like Betty Crocker; all the Instagram worthy stuff (even though we didn’t have that when my kids were little).

We all think – or really, really hope – we know what we’re doing, or that instinct will somehow kick in – and many times it does – but today I’m talking about ten surprises of motherhood I’ve had along the way, and what no one really tells you before you’re just in the trenches. I think you’ll relate to at least a couple…I’m even slippin’ one of my birth stories in there.

Fast forward just a minute later and I was 22 with two kids under the age of two.  My idea of perfect motherhood unraveled faster than you could say, “You pooped on the floor …AGAIN?” ONE of my kids even tried to eat their poop. For the sake of their pride, I’m not going to tell you which one.Let me just say that my kids are 15 and almost 14 now, and having been a mom for 15 years now, there isn’t a whole lot that surprises me.  But, there is a TON that people don’t tell you about motherhood when you’re first starting out, and I learned that REAL fast.

Episode 24: Let’s Talk About Sex: with Leslie Gustafson

July 1, 2019

Resources mentioned in this episode…

Let’s talk about the baby dance, the horizontal polka. The DEED. The thing most of our husbands always hope will happen when they start massaging our backs.

Now that I’ve made you giggle, blush, and hopefully get the idea that your kids should definitely NOT be in earshot for this episode, let me ask you…
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word sex? Do you breathe a heavy sigh and think, ‘ugh, okay, I guess it has been a while.’  Maybe you only relate it to baby making, or maybe you could just simply take it or leave it. Is it something you dread? Is it something you wish you knew more about  or at least didn’t dread?

Today I’m talking with Marriage and Sex Therapist, Leslie Gustafson. Leslie is a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified sex therapist and coach and television expert. In addition to her 30 year private practice, she is Cofounder of the online Marriage Transformation Program – Get Your Dream Marriage and CEO of The Amazing Intimacy Subscription Box Co.

She and her husband Doug wrote the book “Amazing Intimacy – Create A Spectacular Marriage In & Out of the Bedroom”. They have been married 22 years, have 2 sons and 4 grandchildren and are living their dream marriage by the Grace of God and earnest learning about what it takes to live an abundant life and relationship.

Leslie and I get real about sex and our sexuality as women. We talk about WHY sex is important beyond just making babies or just because our husbands want it. We talk about the benefits of sex, and some practical tips just for women about how sex can actually be fun, enjoyable, and not a chore or something to check off a list.

I loved talking to Leslie, and I think we all have something to learn and take from this show. Stick around to the end of the show for how you can get your hands on her Amazing Intimacy Box, which I am a RAVING fan of, and get yourself a little discount!

Buckle up ladies, this episode is gonna rock your world!
