Episode 23: My 3 Favorite Personality Tests

June 24, 2019

Resources mentioned…

Let’s talk personality types. Just tell me this…have you ever felt misunderstood? Have you ever felt lonely? Have you ever felt like you’re the ONLY one with certain quirks or reactions or contradictions about yourself? I definitely have.

I’m not going to do some kind of analysis of the human brain.  I’m not an expert on any of these things.  I’m just a total personality nerd who thinks it’s important to know how we tick.

There are so many benefits to learning more about yourself and your personality. It helps you know what you’re passionate about, your strengths and areas for improvement, what kind of job will make you happiest, and so importantly, how you relate to others. In my opinion, knowing more about your personality type can help with comparison.  It can help you feel confident in the way that YOU were created and APPRECIATE the way that someone else was created. It can even help you find like-minded people and know you’re not alone.

Understanding basic principles of personalities can help you improve your marriage. More about that a little later.

I think we’re all looking for purpose in one way or another, or at some point in our lives, and how we fit into this world.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…loving yourself and for the purpose of this episode, KNOWING yourself in order to love yourself, can help you make HUGE strides in figuring out purpose and passion in your life, and how to go about achieving or reaching it.

One thing I do want to say before we start is that personality tests and structures are not an excuse to put yourself – or anyone else – in a box. I was in a community once where everyone was labeled based on their personality type, and given no real opportunity to move beyond the role they played because that personalty type ‘just couldn’t do that.’

It also doesn’t give anyone an excuse to be a jerk, using the excuse of, ‘oh that’s just my personality.’ Knowing the areas for improvement in your particular personality does not give you permission to stay small or stuck where you are.

Personality tests and studies are meant to be used as tools.  They’re supposed to help us to learn so that we can improve and grow.

TUNE IN TO HEAR ALL ABOUT MY FAVORITE PERSONALITY TESTS AND MY TYPE FOR EACH!

Episode 22: How We Got Out of Debt and Gained Financial Freedom

June 17, 2019

Resources mentioned in the show…

I’m talking about money today. Many people don’t know this, but there was a time when Byron and I could barely afford groceries.  We turned around aNd realized we were in over $30,000 in credit card, student loan and medical debt alone, with no plan or means to get out of it

I know money can be a really stressful topic, especially in family and marriage, but when we can gain financial freedom, it’s a game changer.  So I’m talking today about the method we used to get out of that debt, gain power over our money, and get to where we are today.

What does financial freedom mean to you? Does it mean being able to make choices without the stress and pressure of debt and being able to afford the lifestyle you want? Does it mean a cushy job with a city view and driving your boat on the weekends? Does it mean not having to work so you can stay at home with your babies? Does it mean getting the resources and education you need to get your dream job? I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here.  Financial freedom has meant a lot of different things to us over the years; including my burning desire to be able to buy popcorn when we went to the movies, or buying groceries on a prayer.

If you know my husband Byron and me or listened to our show together a few months ago, you’ll know that we own and operate 15 franchise restaurants and counting.  Many people would count us as blessed and successful, and we feel that way too. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for the life that we have and that our kids don’t have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from.

But we haven’t always had the life that you see us living today. Byron and I both grew up with very financially insecure childhoods. There was no trust fund or inheritance from distant relatives to get us where we are today. What we have was built brick by brick, sacrifice after sacrifice, and one small, good decision at a time.

In this episode I’m talking about the difference between financial success, financial freedom, and the simple steps we took to get there. I 100% believe this changed our lives and got us where we are today, with a company that generates $20 million per year and employs over 300 people.

Episode 21: 2019 Check In

June 10, 2019

Most of us have all but abandoned those big things we set out to do on January 1st. HELLO. I’m doing a little check in on myself and telling you what I did differently this year and some of the goals I set. I’m also telling you where I totally fall short.  I’m here to motivate you, encourage you, but mostly I’m here to say we’re probably in the same boat. So here it is, my half year in review, my goal setting strategies for the future, and why I keep saying the word spinach.

Tune in to hear what I spent the first 2 1/2 months of 2019 doing, how I shifted, and my S.MA.R.T. goals for the rest of the year. I also talk about where I’m falling WAY short.

Author mentioned: Dr. Joe Dispenza

If we really, truly believe in ourselves, we HAVE to believe in the process. The ‘journey’ as it were. Life is not about what you get accomplished in a year, or a quarter, or a month or what you get accomplished at all. It’s about seeing what works and doesn’t work for YOU. What do you want for your life? Who do you see yourself being? Are you doing that thing? If not, it’s NOT TOO LATE to start.

Don’t wait until December 31st of this year to decide who you want to be for 2020. You’re just continuing the cycle. Don’t wait until later to decide who you want to be (I say quietly to myself as I pretend like that line is for everybody else).

And always remember that it’s not about how you start – it’s about how you finish.  How are you finishing? Because gyms across the country are full of the ghosts of New Year’s resolutions past. At the time of this episode, we’re halfway through the year, but even if you’re hearing this in October or even December, it’s not too late to finish well.  What are some attainable, SMART goals you can set TODAY that will help you get closer to who you want to be?

So how are you doing with your goals for the year, for the month, for the week? Wherever you are, I want to cheer you on. Email me. Tell me ONE GOAL – big or small – that you’re going to work toward in the near future. Maybe it’s watching more movies or drinking more water, or I dunno, curling your hair more. There’s nothing too big or too small. We’re in this together.

Episode 20: Real Girl Talk with the hosts of the Unshaken Podcast

June 3, 2019

A little about Courtney and Megan…

It all started with a corporate sales meeting. Megan sat in the boardroom as Courtney, the newest employee walked in. Megan says she can remember thinking, “I am either going to love this girl and we will be best friends or, I am going to hate her because she is drop dead gorgeous.” Megan would always tell you that it ended up being both: they are now best friends and she still thinks Courtney is gorgeous!

As soon as they started talking, they knew they were made for more and wanted to create something together. A first, it was a blog about fashion, travel, home life, and decorating. Then life happened. Megan got married with Courtney standing by her. Then Courtney got married with Megan standing by her. Two babies, two new cities, and two new lives were started, but the thought of creating something together stayed constant. Life’s roller coaster took them both for a ride and the Unshaken Podcast was born  in February of 2019!

Aside from a podcast with her gal Megan, Courtney is a stay at home mama to her one year older daughter, Mila. She is a wife to Tyler for two years now and they live in Birmingham, Alabama. Courtney is the founder of Courtney Sample Photography and specializes in weddings. She loves all things blush, traveling, and taking care of her house plants and two dogs, Kona and Opie.

Aside from a podcast with her sis Courtney, Megan is a Digital Sales Manager for NBC affiliate, WBRC in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is a mama to her  two year old daughter, McCartney and wife of three years to Mark. Megan also runs a lifestyle blog, meganstratton.com. Her favorite things are cooking, reading, and being near the water!

The hope is that our listeners can feel the love and community of the Unshaken Podcast from wherever they are listening. Our goal is to empower women with the tools they need to help make their life easier and build a sisterhood of women that can help them along the way.

I had so much fun talking with these girls about mom guilt, working moms, stay at home moms; we even spend quite a while talking about our underwear. This show is kind of like you’re just listening to a few ladies getting together for happy hour, talking about all sorts of fun things. I dare you not to laugh and say ‘me too’ to yourself at any point during this episode! Here’s my conversation with Courtney and Megan from the Unshaken Podcast.
